Personally, I embrace this opportunity wholeheartedly (and I’m not just talking about the fluffy, stuffed kind). Brief history of this holiday
Saint Valentine is said to have lived in the 3rd century, in Rome, during the reign of Emperor Claudius II. At that time, the Emperor of Rome, noticing that the soldiers who lived in the capital of the Empire no longer wanted to fight in the army, and considering that the reason would be caused by their desire not to separate from their wives, forbade them to leave to marry Saint Valentine, who was a Christian priest, became known for the fact that, disregarding the emperor’s order, he secretly officiated marriages between Christians.
The priest Valentin was caught, imprisoned and martyred in 269, becoming the patron saint of lovers and happy marriages in the Western world. Before his martyrdom, says a legend, Saint Valentine fell in love with Iulia, the daughter of his guardian, Asterius, who was blind and to whom he restored her sight. The one who blessed the love of so many couples could not be happy with the woman he loved, and his farewell message, addressed to the young woman and signed “Your Valentine”, is considered the first “love note”. The tradition is now carried forward by lovers all over the world, but the tickets no longer have the sad meaning of a farewell message.
